I just spent the morning and most of the afternoon at Shirataka kindergarten, which is far and away my favorite school. I've been visiting them for the past four months, and get on fabulously with the principal, the teachers, and all of the kids.

Better yet, they are really, really good about not abusing the CIR visits. I've taught English there of course, but I've also taught American children's games, nursery rhymes, and had several days where they just let me play with the kids. Last week I gave a short impromptu talk about Easter. I thought I'd bored everyone to tears, but it turns out they were all listening really closely. So in a fit of inspiration, I asked the teachers if we could make Easter eggs on my next visit.

And today we did. The kids had a blast. The teachers had a blast. I had a blast. I was really worried that it would go horridly, to the point that I actually called my parents last night and asked my dad how to blow eggs. (I'm sure that one made my friends at the NSA sit up a little straighter, although my dad knew exactly what I meant.)

I managed to blow all the eggs without breaking a single one, and then we spent the next two hours coloring them. Everyone had a blast. Damn, if only all of my job could be like this. We made tamago sushi with the eggs, which was a nice edition to kyuushoku.

I was having so much fun that I decided to blow off my non-job in the city hall to play with the kids on the playground for an hour. I like kids in general (even if I hate teaching English to them) but I love these kids to death. And as an added bonus, about half of last spring's graduating class came back to see me, and I got to chill out with them too. So, yay. Awesome day, for once!

That will be all.

Sounds like a great day. I haven't made easter eggs like that in quite a while, although we do get proper dyed eggs when my grandmother celebrates Easter. Which is with real dyes and not food colouring like the kindy teacher at Nick's school tried to use.

Tamago sushi - is it tasty? Nick's got me on sushi-making duty, and I suffer a lack of ideas as to what to use. I tell you, I must love him greatly, as I cannot stand the smell of the nori sheets.

I'm showing off my new icon. I made it the other day, when I got the latest chapter of Bleach ;)

Well, we didn't dye the eggs, as I figured the kids would have more fun coloring them in with markers, and they did. They were really careful too--no one dropped or otherwise crushed their egg during the entire exercise.

Tamago sushi is really easy to make. Just whip your eggs with a fork till they're a smooth yellow color, then add some sugar and mirin. (Some people add rice wine too.) Then get a pan, square is best and lay down a thin layer. Roll it up and to the back with chopsticks when it gets to crepe consistency and add another layer. Ideally, all the layers are of the same thickness. Should look like this after you slap it on the rice.

Tease? Moi? If I was teasing, I'd sorta drop hints that maybe, in some countries, what Ikkaku does to Yumichika is considered a kiss of sorts.

But I'm not going to even mention the pair, or what happens, in any context. Really.
