Monthly CIR meeting today, during which I talked to my boss about ye olde worke situation. He was most surprised to discover how much I am teaching English (two schools a day) and how little work I am doing at city hall (read: none). Something is now going to be done to address the problem (compared to the lip service I received in the Oaks), which leaves me Much Relieved.

Of concern: it is looking like I will need to have my own copy of Adobe Acrobat professional. This is a Good Thing in the long run (trust me!), but man, how long will it take me to actually earn that money back?

And now, for my current moral quandry.

I spent the past weekend with a bunch of dj friends in Tokyo, clubbing. I stayed at one of their houses, drove down in their car, and they got me on the guest list (in Tokyo!!!) so that all I had to pay for was my drinks. Some of djs - Jeff Mills - are Big Names in the EDM scene, so this is no small thing.

They're holding a party in the Oaks this weekend. I have promised to be there, in a Halloween costume. The JET Halloween party was rescheduled to coincide with this party. I must now tell my friends that I am bugging out on their party, because I cannot miss the Halloween party - it's the biggest (and most fun) of the year.

But man, I feel like crap about this.

What to do???

That will be all.

Whom did you have the prior commtment with? It sounds like the JET party, which is the one that got rescheduled? It's no breach of etiquette then to tell your friends that your prior commitment got rescheduled and therefore you can't attend the second party. You can certainly convey your unhappiness over this turn of events but you HAD already promised to attend that one first. Promise to attend their next event as the priority one, and I'm sure they'll respect the fact that you don't blow things or friends off lightly but honor your commitments.

And woo hoo with the acknowledgment that you aren't doing what you were hired for!! Although if the other job offers and is better, I'll root for that :-)

I know, but this will be the third party of theirs I've skipped out of due to transportation problems/schedule conflicts, and to add insult to injury, the headlining dj is the guy whose house I stayed at in Tokyo. Eeep!

The other job will only be part time while I do the JET thing, but if (if) I get it, it should be a blast!

I've also got to use Acrobat for work. I'd been using the 4.0 academic version for a few years, but I needed the Word document conversion options that were introduced with 5.0. So I got it off eBay in the form of used OEM software, few hundred dollars cheaper than buying it new. You may not need the latest version either, and academic / educational versions (cheaper yet) do have the pdf editing functions.

Oh, that is a good idea! Thanks. I was looking into having my sister buy it with her university discount, but ebay would most likely be cheaper.

I will hopefully be able to mention by the end of the month why I need acrobat...cross your fingers.

My v5.0 professional OEM disk via an eBay dutch auction was $80 (unregistered, unopened, and -not- pirated, yay), but the academic versions do go for much cheaper. As I recall, academic v4.0 (bought with my sister's teacher discount) worked fine for packing up my scans, downloading websites, and editing chapters and articles. I only upgraded to get my paws on the spiffy Word document features, really.

I will hopefully be able to mention by the end of the month why I need acrobat...cross your fingers.

Mysterious. :)
