Weekend Update
Jan. 22nd, 2006 11:32 pmAnd so it came to pass that on Saturday I went snowboarding for the second time in my life.
The first time I went I didn't even bother with a lift pass, and only went as far up the slope as my feet would carry me. This time I took the lift to the top and boarded all the way to the base. I managed to get pretty damn good at it too (its being the only way back down the mountain didn't hurt), so that I managed five runs in three hours.
There isn't much to snowboarding; the biggest difficulty to overcome isn't how to do it, but rather how not to be afraid of going at such fast speeds over such long nigh vertical distances. I intentionally wiped out several times just because I didn't want to go that fast any longer. But overall, I regulated. I mean, how could I not regulate when I looked like this?

Sunday found me studying Korean at this kickass hidden coffee house I'd discovered in December, before attempting to return my wonky G50 at the local Joshin. They were turdtastic as usual and refused to take it because it's possible to pry the thing open by bracing it against a hard service and crowbarring four of ones fingernails under the lid while depressing the latch with the other. I plan on trying to return it to the Utown franchise once I'm actually permitted to drive my own car. (Don't ask.)
I topped off the evening by singing karaoke with some Japanese friends. They love karaoke as much as I do, so we immediately got down to business and didn't stop for four hours. (And only then because I ::ahem:: have work tomorrow.) Karaoke is loads of fun always, and even better with Japanese people who don't know most Western artists, meaning that I can sing through the entire available Roxette/RHCP/REM/Garbage/Pixies back catalogue without any value judgements being passed on the relative merits of the music, or the perceived monotony of singing every single Beck has ever recorded. Good times.
