akujunkanAnd here I am with yet another translated chapter of Silver Diamond. It's like Christmas in July, isn't it?
Shall we open presents?
Oh my gods are you people in for a treat. This is hands down the BEST Silver Diamond chapter yet. It's got everything; humor, angst, h/c, innuendo thicker than a cloud of gnats, and a nice little cliffhanger. And then there is the Plot, with a captial letter. This chapter is my comfort food. Any time there's a whole bunch of dialogue from Random Person/Student/Male etc, you can imagine a host of people talking, even if it looks as though it's only one person in my translation.
The Story So Far
Suddenly, one day, Chigusa Senrou fell into a garden.
Mistaking Rakan Sawa for someone else, he attacked him.
From the time of that misunderstanding on, Rakan began to look after him.
Their number was soon increased by Narushige Shigeka, and his snake Kou, who both fell into the garden next.
The three men and one snake began to slowly befriend one another and their goodwill toward one another grew.
Suddenly, Touji Touno appeared with the purpose of hunting them down, but Rakan's abilities as a Sanome saved them, and Touno was taken prisoner for the time being.

Chigusa: I get all shivery when you order me around. It feels good.
So please discipline me some more.

Out of nowhere, Chigusa began to seduce Rakan.
Rakan: "................................."

Touno: This guy's even going to give me dinner?
Rakan: "Hey! Come here."
Touno: Even me?

Rakan: "Lessee, who shall we start with? First--"
Touno: "First explain who you really are!"
"Why do you have the same face as the Prince? And why do you have a Sanome's abilities?"
"You're the most suspicious of us all!"
Rakan: Yikes! Those are all good points.
"But the thing is, I really don't know. I don't know your 'Prince' either."
Touno: "The resemblance is too strong to let it rest with 'I don't know!'"
Narushige: "Before he answers that, how about telling us your name?"
Touno: "Why? There's no reason for me to tell you who I am."
"I came here to eliminate you - what are you going to do if I tell you my name, idiot?"
"Idiot."
Narushige: "What's the matter?"*
"After all, if you came here to eliminate useless people, then you're the one in the right, aren't you?"
"And if you're only doing what's right, there's no reason why you can't tell us your name, is there?"
Touno: "!"
"........................... 'Touno'!"
Narushige: A member of the Touno Family. (Well that was easy.)
"And your first name?"
"Is it a name you can't say?"
"With a numeral in it, perhaps?"**
Touno: "................................... You don't need to know my name to talk to me, do you?"
"Do you, you useless Shigeka?"
//Kou strikes...//

"Getting back to our discussion, concerning my identity: I'm sorry, but I haven't the slightest idea, and I'm certainly no prince."
"Anyway... are there any other questions?"
Chigusa: "Rakan."
"(I have one.)"
Rakan: "Yes, Chigusa."
"(What is it?)"
Chigusa: "Well, for starters, I want you to become my Prince."
//Rakan chokes on his beverage.//
Rakan: "Absolutely not."

Rakan: "Senrou! Just a minute here! What the hell is all this? All this stuff you've been going on about?"
Chigusa: "I'm seducing you! (With everything I've got.)"
Rakan: "Yes. Why?"
Chigusa: "Because I want you to come back with me."
Rakan: "Who? Me?"
Chigusa: "Mmhmm."
Rakan: "To that world?"
Chigusa: "Yes. And so I'm seducing you."
Rakan: Well that's a bit abrupt.

Narushige: "Kou? Please turn off the television."
Kou: "Not a problem."
Rakan: "Getting back to the matter at hand... Let's do this from the beginning. The beginning! Namely, why did all of you come to this world?"
*((Rakan's being a bit of an ass here, 'cause Chigusa hasn't exactly agreed with that assumption yet.))
((Just thought I'd mention here that Sugiura has the best comedic sense of any mangaka I've ever, ever read. Have I mentioned that we're to be married?))
Rakan: "How about you, Narushige-san?"
Narushige: "Well, I don't really understand it myself. I was called, so I went out. All of a sudden, something pushed me, and when I came to, I'd come here."
Rakan: "You were 'called'?"
Narushige: "Yes."
Rakan: Well, that certainly sounds like a setup.
Kou: "Yeah, who were you called by? (Back then?)"
Narushige: "Hmm? No, can't really say it was just by 'someone'..."
"...because Shigeyuki-sama told me to go."
Rakan: "'Shigeyuki-sama'?"
Touno: "The head of the Shigeka family."
Rakan: So I guess she's the family's most distinguished person.
Rakan: He was told to go by the family's most distinguished person, and when he went, he was sucked down into this world. And so, it really seems... (Woah! This is going in a bad direction).
"Hmmm. Chigusa said he'd been sucked into this world too. Hey! Then... Does that mean I was sucked into this world as well? Long ago?"

Narushige: "Um, Rakan-kun? Are you saying that you weren't born here?"
//Blank stares from Chigusa, Touno, and Narushige.//
Rakan: "Huh? No, right! I fell into the garden fifteen years ago, along with my mother."

Narushige: "Okay, so what you're saying is that you really came from our world all along!?"
Rakan: "Yes..."
Kou: "Next time tell us this stuff!!"

Chigusa: "Well that speeds things up! 'Return to my homeland with me!'"
Narushige: "Senrou, I asked you to shut up. (You're getting in the way of discussion.)"
Touno: "...................................."
Narushige: "Okay, Rakan-kun, so what you're saying is that it wasn't just your mother who was sucked into this world? Fifteen years ago, that Sanome......"
Fifteen years ago................
....The last Sanome in our world...
Rakan: "Ah! Hold on a sec here. So if I'm a Sanome, then that absolutely means that my mother was a Sanome too?"
Narushige: "Yes, you see, Sanome can only give birth to male Sanome."
Rakan: "Huh? Sanome can't give birth to female Sanome?"
Huh? But in order for there to be female Sanome... How?
Rakan: "But if that's so, how do Sanome continue to exist?"
Touno: "Duh. It's been like that forever. Female Sanome are only generated by female Shigeka."
Rakan: "Huh? ('Generated?')"
Touno: "You draw blood from a Shigeka, and even a young girl can incubate a Sanome."
Touno: "And that's why I said this bastard was useless."
Rakan: "That's enough of that!"

Okay... So... It's like Christ and the Virgin Mary... Where do Sanome come from?
"So there isn't a Sanome Family?"
Narushige: "No, but there are instances when Sanome marry and bear children, and in those cases, they can only ever bear male children."
Rakan: "Ah... So that means I'm..."
"Yeah. I'm a boy, and a Sanome, and my mother was a Sanome, so my father was a normal human being."

"................................... WHAT!?"
"So you're saying that means that I have a father over there!?"

Narushige: "You're telling me you just now realised this!?"
Rakan: "(Yeah.) I'd never really thought about it."

Narushige: "Rakan-kun and the Prince are brothers. That's what one would think, but..."
Chigusa: "No, they aren't."
Rakan: "Huh? Chigusa..."
Touno: That's the first thing he's said that make sense...
Narushige: "Why do you say that, Chigusa?"
Chigusa: "Because that Prince is an Ayame."
Touno, Narushige, Kou, and others: "An Ayame!?"
Chigusa: "Yup."
Rakan: "You mean, one of those?"
//Rakan thinks of the Ayame that attacked him a few chapters back. //

Narushige: "Is that what you meant the other day when you called him a puppet?"
Chigusa: "Yeah."

Chigusa: "That Prince survives by stealing nourishment from the desert. He's a puppet of the Ayame."

"So then.... So...."
Rakan: "You're saying the Prince is the reason your world's a desert?"
Chigusa: "Yes."
Touno: "Wha..?"
Chigusa: "That's why I decided to shoot the Prince, and why Kingen Kinrei expelled me here."
Narushige: "Kinrei-sama sent you!?"
Chigusa: "Kinrei made a vortex in the air, and by the time I realised it was going to suck me through, I'd already been swallowed up by it."
Narushige: Just the same...as me.
So...was I sent here by Kinrei-sama too..?
Touno: "That's a lie!"
"Stop telling lies!"
((Flashback to Touno receiving his orders))

Kinrei: "Senrou Chigusa has escaped into another world. We want you to pursue him and eliminate him. We have given you that Purpose."
Kinrei: "Even you have a reason for being alive...."

Touno: "There's no way Kinrei-sama would do such a thing!!"
"And the Prince... He gave me my eyes!"
"He gave me eyes when I was blind. And at last I could see! He gave them to me! He gave me eyes!"
Touno: "He gave someone like me that Purpose! He gave it to me!"

"Stop talking shit, Senrou!! Stop talking shit!! Stop trying to bullshit everyone!!"
Rakan: "........................................"
Narushige: "........................................"
"Touno."
"You're saying that you came here on the orders of Kinrei-sama and the Prince?"
Touno: "!"
Narushige: "You were ordered here to kill Senrou, and me, and Rakan-kun, weren't you?"
"How could Kinrei-sama have known that the three of us were here?"
Touno: Shit...

Chigusa: "He'd have known if he was the person who forced us to come here, wouldn't he?"
Rakan: "Wait, hold on a sec. Me too?"
Chigusa: "Probably."
"The Prince probably sees you as an obstacle, after all."
Rakan: "........................................."
Chigusa: "In other words, he disposed of things that were in his way. Me..."
"...and the Male Shigeka..."
Narushige: "(Hey. Watch it.)"
Chigusa: "...and the Sanome Prince."
Rakan: "(Prince?)"
//Chigusa points to Touno.//
Touno: "!"
Chigusa: "And most likely you as well."
Touno: "Wha..?"
Chigusa: "He ordered you to come here and kill me, didn't he? Well, Kinrei should understand that normal people die when you kill them. But I'm--"
Chigusa: "But I really am someone who can't die, just like in all the fairy tales."
"And he ordered you to 'go and kill' someone like that."
Narushige: "Saying 'go and kill someone who can't die' is..."
Kou: "....a whole lot like saying, 'don't ever come back'!"
Rakan: ".............................................."
Touno: "............................"
"Shut up. All of you, shut up..."
//Touno leaps over the table toward Chigusa.//
Touno: "Senrou!!
"If that's what you're going to say, then I'll kill you right here right now!!!"
Chigusa: "!"

//Rakan's just smacked Touno over the head with his slipper.//

Touno: "The hell was that? You imposter Prince!!"

Rakan: "You too, Chigusa! (If those are the sorts of things you're going to say.) Don't be a bully. If what you're saying is true, you should feel bad for him."
"......Anyway. At the very least, let's eat our dinner first, before it gets cold."
"(Sorry about the slipper.)"
Touno: How can he talk so composedly about it???
Narushige: "That's right. You've gone to all this trouble to prepare it for us. (Let's eat while it's still warm.)"
Chigusa: "Thanks for dinner."

Rakan: "'Damn the torpedoes, huh? (Same as ever)"
"When did you eat all of that?"
Chigusa: "'Damn the torpedoes?' (What's that?)"
Kou: "'Going full-force.'"
Touno: ............................He doesn't get it.
Chigusa: "What does that mean?"
Rakan: "It means you're the sort of person who does whatever you want whenever you want to."
Chigusa: "Ah, of course. (That's pretty accurate.)"
Kou: "So, he's saying 'I Did It My Way?'"
Rakan: "Well, not exactly, but the sentiment's the same."
Chigusa: "You're saying that I'm the one who Does It My Way?"
Rakan: "(It isn't praise, you know...)"*
*((See me weeping here? ::weep, weep:: This little exchange is the single funniest thing I have ever read in a manga, and there's no way to convey it in English, as my pitiful attempt above should illustrate. Basically, Rakan tells Chigusa that Chigusa is 'My pace' - another English transliteration into Japanese. Chigusa doesn't understand it, Kou helps out, and then Chigusa happily adopts the definition, never catching on that it isn't very flattering. Kou then amends his definition to include the ridiculously macho pronoun 'oresama,' thus laying down The Snark. This also flies over Chigusa's head, and much hilarity ensues.
And I can't capture any of it in English. Yup. Watch me weep...))
Touno: "................................."
What is with these people.......?
Rakan: "Hey, you eat too, Touno."
Touno: "...................................."
Rakan: "I haven't poisoned it or anything, so don't worry. Go ahead and eat. And don't forget your vegetables."
Touno: "........................................."
What the hell is with this guy?
Touno: Why is he treating me as if I were no different from anyone else?
Touno: "This is spicy!"
Narushige: "It's not spicy at all."
Chigusa: "It wasn't spicy at all."
Touno: "You've poisoned my food after all, haven't you!!"
Rakan: "I have not poisoned your food."
Dammit! You're just as picky as a little kid when it comes to food.
Random Person #1: "Hey, have you heard?"
Random Person #1: "They say Narushige Shigeka's vanished."
Random Person #2: "Narushige's gone?"
Random Person #1: "Yeah, it happened a few days ago, all of a sudden. They say he disappeared right in front of everyone's eyes."
Random Person #2: "Are you serious?"
Random Person #1: "As if he'd been whisked away into thin air."
Random Woman: "Yes. I've heard that too."

**((The 'e' is the same character used for the 'shige' in 'Shigeka,' 'Narushige,' and 'Shigeyuki.' The 'mi' is the character for 'three.' So Mie is a Numeric Child.))
Shigeyuki: "If he's really gone, it actually means that our luck is improving."
"If he's left the Shigeka Family, then good riddance!"
Mie: "Even..."

That's right...I hadn't told him that, or anything.
Chigusa: "The characters in your first and last names are changed."**
Rakan: "No, I mean, compared to you guys..."
Ah, that's right. These people use the same character in their personal and family names.
"...it's the usual way over here. My grampa gave me this name."
*((There are some smeltering looks being exchanged here. Just thought I'd mention.^_^))
**((And here is where my love for Sugiura is becomes ALL ENCOMPASSING. Go to the first translation and find this line: "My name is Rakan Sawa. It's kind of a strange name". It gave me some trouble, because the Japanese word Rakan uses can mean either 'changed' or 'strange' depending on the context. I went with 'strange' because it seemed the most likely of the two, but still it didn't quite make sense. The characters in Rakan's names are 'changed (from each other)' and it's strange to Chigusa. Sugiura was foreshadowing. She freaking knew all the way back then.))
Chigusa: You had a....

The Story So Far
Suddenly, one day, Chigusa Senrou fell into a garden.
Mistaking Rakan Sawa for someone else, he attacked him.
From the time of that misunderstanding on, Rakan began to look after him.
Their number was soon increased by Narushige Shigeka, and his snake Kou, who both fell into the garden next.
The three men and one snake began to slowly befriend one another and their goodwill toward one another grew.
Suddenly, Touji Touno appeared with the purpose of hunting them down, but Rakan's abilities as a Sanome saved them, and Touno was taken prisoner for the time being.

Chigusa: I get all shivery when you order me around. It feels good.
So please discipline me some more.

Out of nowhere, Chigusa began to seduce Rakan.

Rakan: Yikes! Those are all good points.
"But the thing is, I really don't know. I don't know your 'Prince' either."
Touno: "The resemblance is too strong to let it rest with 'I don't know!'"
Narushige: "Before he answers that, how about telling us your name?"
Touno: "Why? There's no reason for me to tell you who I am."
"I came here to eliminate you - what are you going to do if I tell you my name, idiot?"
"Idiot."
Narushige: "What's the matter?"*
"After all, if you came here to eliminate useless people, then you're the one in the right, aren't you?"
"And if you're only doing what's right, there's no reason why you can't tell us your name, is there?"
Touno: "!"
"........................... 'Touno'!"
Narushige: A member of the Touno Family. (Well that was easy.)
"And your first name?"
"Is it a name you can't say?"
"With a numeral in it, perhaps?"**

Rakan: "How about you, Narushige-san?"
Narushige: "Well, I don't really understand it myself. I was called, so I went out. All of a sudden, something pushed me, and when I came to, I'd come here."
Rakan: "You were 'called'?"
Narushige: "Yes."
Rakan: Well, that certainly sounds like a setup.
Kou: "Yeah, who were you called by? (Back then?)"
Narushige: "Hmm? No, can't really say it was just by 'someone'..."
"...because Shigeyuki-sama told me to go."
Rakan: "'Shigeyuki-sama'?"
Touno: "The head of the Shigeka family."
Rakan: So I guess she's the family's most distinguished person.
Rakan: He was told to go by the family's most distinguished person, and when he went, he was sucked down into this world. And so, it really seems... (Woah! This is going in a bad direction).
"Hmmm. Chigusa said he'd been sucked into this world too. Hey! Then... Does that mean I was sucked into this world as well? Long ago?"

Narushige: "Okay, Rakan-kun, so what you're saying is that it wasn't just your mother who was sucked into this world? Fifteen years ago, that Sanome......"

Rakan: "Ah! Hold on a sec here. So if I'm a Sanome, then that absolutely means that my mother was a Sanome too?"
Narushige: "Yes, you see, Sanome can only give birth to male Sanome."
Rakan: "Huh? Sanome can't give birth to female Sanome?"
Huh? But in order for there to be female Sanome... How?
Rakan: "But if that's so, how do Sanome continue to exist?"
Touno: "Duh. It's been like that forever. Female Sanome are only generated by female Shigeka."
Rakan: "Huh? ('Generated?')"
Touno: "You draw blood from a Shigeka, and even a young girl can incubate a Sanome."
Touno: "And that's why I said this bastard was useless."
Rakan: "That's enough of that!"

Okay... So... It's like Christ and the Virgin Mary... Where do Sanome come from?
"So there isn't a Sanome Family?"
Narushige: "No, but there are instances when Sanome marry and bear children, and in those cases, they can only ever bear male children."

"Yeah. I'm a boy, and a Sanome, and my mother was a Sanome, so my father was a normal human being."

Chigusa: "Because that Prince is an Ayame."
Touno, Narushige, Kou, and others: "An Ayame!?"
Chigusa: "Yup."
Rakan: "You mean, one of those?"

Chigusa: "That's why I decided to shoot the Prince, and why Kingen Kinrei expelled me here."
Narushige: "Kinrei-sama sent you!?"
Chigusa: "Kinrei made a vortex in the air, and by the time I realised it was going to suck me through, I'd already been swallowed up by it."
Narushige: Just the same...as me.
So...was I sent here by Kinrei-sama too..?
Touno: "That's a lie!"
"Stop telling lies!"

"You're saying that you came here on the orders of Kinrei-sama and the Prince?"

Narushige: "You were ordered here to kill Senrou, and me, and Rakan-kun, weren't you?"
"How could Kinrei-sama have known that the three of us were here?"
Touno: Shit...

Chigusa: "He'd have known if he was the person who forced us to come here, wouldn't he?"
Rakan: "Wait, hold on a sec. Me too?"
Chigusa: "Probably."
"The Prince probably sees you as an obstacle, after all."

Chigusa: "In other words, he disposed of things that were in his way. Me..."

Narushige: "(Hey. Watch it.)"

Chigusa: "He ordered you to come here and kill me, didn't he? Well, Kinrei should understand that normal people die when you kill them. But I'm--"
Chigusa: "But I really am someone who can't die, just like in all the fairy tales."
"And he ordered you to 'go and kill' someone like that."
Narushige: "Saying 'go and kill someone who can't die' is..."
Kou: "....a whole lot like saying, 'don't ever come back'!"

Touno: "............................"
"Shut up. All of you, shut up..."
//Touno leaps over the table toward Chigusa.//
Touno: "Senrou!!
"If that's what you're going to say, then I'll kill you right here right now!!!"

//Rakan's just smacked Touno over the head with his slipper.//

Narushige: "That's right. You've gone to all this trouble to prepare it for us. (Let's eat while it's still warm.)"

Chigusa: "'Damn the torpedoes?' (What's that?)"

Touno: ............................He doesn't get it.
Chigusa: "What does that mean?"
Rakan: "It means you're the sort of person who does whatever you want whenever you want to."
Chigusa: "Ah, of course. (That's pretty accurate.)"
Kou: "So, he's saying 'I Did It My Way?'"
Rakan: "Well, not exactly, but the sentiment's the same."
Chigusa: "You're saying that I'm the one who Does It My Way?"
Rakan: "(It isn't praise, you know...)"*
*((See me weeping here? ::weep, weep:: This little exchange is the single funniest thing I have ever read in a manga, and there's no way to convey it in English, as my pitiful attempt above should illustrate. Basically, Rakan tells Chigusa that Chigusa is 'My pace' - another English transliteration into Japanese. Chigusa doesn't understand it, Kou helps out, and then Chigusa happily adopts the definition, never catching on that it isn't very flattering. Kou then amends his definition to include the ridiculously macho pronoun 'oresama,' thus laying down The Snark. This also flies over Chigusa's head, and much hilarity ensues.
And I can't capture any of it in English. Yup. Watch me weep...))
Touno: "................................."
What is with these people.......?
Rakan: "Hey, you eat too, Touno."
Touno: "...................................."
Rakan: "I haven't poisoned it or anything, so don't worry. Go ahead and eat. And don't forget your vegetables."

Touno: "This is spicy!"
Narushige: "It's not spicy at all."
Chigusa: "It wasn't spicy at all."

**((And here is where my love for Sugiura is becomes ALL ENCOMPASSING. Go to the first translation and find this line: "My name is Rakan Sawa. It's kind of a strange name". It gave me some trouble, because the Japanese word Rakan uses can mean either 'changed' or 'strange' depending on the context. I went with 'strange' because it seemed the most likely of the two, but still it didn't quite make sense. The characters in Rakan's names are 'changed (from each other)' and it's strange to Chigusa. Sugiura was foreshadowing. She freaking knew all the way back then.))
Chigusa: You had a....

It's so cool that you're doing this. I still haven't got addicted to Silver Diamond on the same scale as Koori (I fell in love with Blood and Ishuca in, oh, the first ten pages) but reading the humor and the puns in your translations is drawing me in.

Ah! But it's not a competition, so don't worry!
Interesting last remark, because it took me a while to get into Koori - I didn't like the art in the beginning, and the story seemed really similar to a lot of yaoi one-offs. Sergi was the character that totally drew me in, and I didn't dig Blood/Ishuca till about book five or so.
I trust Sugiura a lot more this time around, but man, the story's picked up fast. I hope she's got it planned out for another 22 volumes or so, cause I don't want it to end.
More translations coming; don't worry.
