Common Sense Ranting
Mar. 3rd, 2004 01:59 amChicken influenza has just spread to Japan. All of Japan. So, along with mad cow, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of meat that's safe to eat anymore.
Now, I'm not a member of PETA, I don't sympathise with the ELF, and I'm not even a vegetarian, but having seen footage of thousands and thousands of chickens kept in cages so small they can't even stand, so small that their feet have grown around the bars so that when they die they have to be cut out of their cages, I can't help but believe that perhaps the Terrible Anathema of chicken influenza might have something to do with the fact that the way modern society breeds and keeps animals is FUCKING EVIL.
Even if you have no sympathy for these animals' quality of life before they're slaughtered, from a purely logical and scientific standpoint, keeping them in conditions where they can't move and essentially forcing them to cannibalise one another (the source of mad cow) is just a dumb fucking idea. When any animal population - including humans - is kept in a filthy, shit- and germ-ridden, overcrowded area, without access to its natural food source, it will always succumb to disease epidemics - that's how nature evens out the numbers so that the remaining animals can live in more hospitable conditions.
Duh.
