akujunkan...so it was only a matter of time before I started reccing fics on my lj too. And because this is OOC for me, I'm going to start with three fics that are AU/XO, the reading of which is also rather OOC for me.
Medieval!Clex
I'm not a big Smallville fan, as I can't watch the show in English (and the Japanese dub just don't cut it folks). I'm also one of those people who really has to be into a series before I can get into its fanfic. But as a fan of all things Aurthurian/Beowulfian, this story was too good to pass up. Batman!Snarry
I'm not a Batman fan, and it seems almost pointless to recamanuensis1's fics, because everyone in HP fandom already knows who she is. But this story really does deserve it, being one of the funniest things I've read in ages. And I'm not talking chuckle funny here, folks. I almost cried. Snape and Harry as Batman and Robin, and yet, they're still IC. I don't know how she did it either, but the story's called "Duhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh-- WHO?" and you can read it here. I owe this rec to ntamara
Noir!Sanzou-ikkou
I don't normally dig AUs, as I primarily read fanfiction because the real article is not being produced fast enough for my tastes. Thus, AUs just can't satisfy. But this story... Sanzou & Co. are still journeying west, but they've jumped a continent or two. Despite being riddled with annoying (and jarring) spelling and grammatical errors, "Leveling Las Vegas" is one of the funniest fics I've read in Saiyuki fandom (the Sanzou Ikkou's new names alone are worth the read), and the cross between the Journey to the West and a hardboiled detective/noir potboiler is not as tenuous as one might think. Interested parties can read it here. I owe this rec toakujunkan, because I found it all on my lonesome.
