akujunkanI just finished rereading 氷の魔物の物語 v.24 and 氷の魔物の物語外伝. Both have reconfirmed my adoration of and love for Sugiura Shiho, who is simply the best mangaka out there. The depth and breadth of her storytelling just astounds me. There are so many layers to her stories that I usually underestimate her ability only to find that she's anticipated me volumes ahead of any given event. The ending was of course worlds better than anything I could have imagined, and I have the feeling that the characters are still out there doing things, but Sugiura just isn't telling her readers about them any more. What a great feeling. I'm going to miss these characters a lot.
That being said, no one can rival Bohra Naono for sexy kink and twisted, short storytelling. Too bad the woman at Animate threw out the tabi which would have allowed me to send in for the free phone card. Eeh, such is life. The stories are good, regardless.
Went to Noh theater yesterday. I love, love, love Noh, even better than Kabuki or Bunraku. There's something about it - the pacing, the choreography, the music, the atmosphere - that just gets me. I'm getting better at following the narration in the play itself, as opposed to relying on the handbills to give me a synopsis of the plot, and that's gratifying as well.
Unfortunately, it was rainy, so the plays were held in the city auditorium instead of at 瑞龍寺, which sucked because Western auditorium stages are not set up for properly viewing Noh. I managed to get great seats regardless, so it worked out in the end.
There's going to be another big Noh performance in The Big City next month. It's around 50 dollars and far from the station, but I think I just might have to spring for it.
Today was Monday, which meant SMAPxSMAP, and oh lord, what a good episode it was. We had the Mayor of Nagano whoring himself (and his ken) to the boys, a ssssuper mountain climbing adventure (that hug and dance at the end...), and the ending number was sung entirely inEnglish Engrish and made me cry out of sheer joy at the glory of its butchering of my native tongue. I wish I'd taped it.
