Hisashiburi, LJ yo

Oh man, it has been a long time since I've posted in this thing.
And it looks like lj is by and large dead. Where does everybody post now? At any rate, it is with great pleasure that I write to announce that my Long Residential Nightmare comes to a close this Saturday. For the past year I have been living in a house with a woman who was slowly (and then increasingly quickly) sliding into senility and physical incapacity. It was harrowing, to say the least, and I'm terrified because neither she nor her family has made any arrangements to have her properly taken care of once I am gone. But nevertheless, I will be gone, and salvaging my sanity in the process.
It's going to be tricky to say the least--over 2/3 of my pretax salary is going to rent alone, and then I somehow have to manage food, transportation, student loans, and everything else on top of that. But right now I think the price is worth it for the freedom and peace of mind I will be gaining in return. And I am actually old and domesticated now, because I'm very, very excited about furnishings! Bedding! Color schemes! And a whole bunch of crap I didn't give a hoot about until two or three years ago. I seem to have even acquired window dressings, a shower curtain, and a favorite dinnerware pattern I'm working up the nerve to buy. (I could save money by sticking with secondhand mismatched dishes, but I don't want secondhand mismatched dishes.)
I won't actually find out what my apartment looks like (or even how big it is) until Saturday when I move in. But yeah, excited. I will be getting my life back, and with it, hopefully all the things I enjoy about life.
That will be all.

on 2012-08-22 12:44 pm (UTC)It's not so much LJ is dead as it is that fandom went off in every which direction; some stayed here, some moved to Dreamwidth, some to Twitter and some are living on Tumblr. On the blogs I've noticed a considerable downturn in content1, but once the shiny of Tumblr fades & it's lack of ability to have a conversation on it has worn thin, people will drift back. Also it seems that the most popular fandom these days (based on what the majority of my once multi-fannish f-list now posts about) is Teen Wolf. I have no interest in it, regardless of how slashy it is.

on 2012-08-22 03:32 pm (UTC)I'm still here - I read daily but post more like weekly. I'm knee-deep in fandom. I do have a tumblr, but I don't actually write on it, I just play with the pretty pictures.
Becca's starting senior year of HS, Ethan fourth grade.
I take karate. A lot.

on 2012-08-22 06:07 pm (UTC)I even occasionally talk BL manga when I can find time in between the One Piece posts.
Good to see you're still around! Enjoy the move to new digs.
