The other day I ran into one of my friends who will be returning to Cambodia shortly. She asked me if I needed anything for my apartment besides a refrigerator.

I asked her if she happened to have any shelving, because my rectangle has none, which means that I am literally living out of a suitcase where my clothing is concerned, and that since I have acquired quite a bit of new clothing, I could do by clearing some space out of my closet by moving the books it currently houses elsewhere.

She responded that she did have some shelves, but that they were pretty small. I said I'd take them. Today I went and picked them up from school. Then I assembled them, and then I put my books on them.

OMG, isn't it cute? Seriously, this little thing has made me happier than anything in recent memory. So cute.

In the interest of full disclosure and because [livejournal.com profile] metal_dog5 is gonna try and tease me when she sees this, the shelving doesn't hold the "special" manga, the oversized books, or the undersized books, and there are also a lot of school and city library books on it.

But it's so cute! So cute!

That will be all.

Too bad you're far away from Tokyo... Jen and I have had to shed a lot of furniture for our various moves (mine back to the states, hers to a smaller place).

Yeah, I saw your guys' posts about that, but like you say getting any of it down to Kyoto would have been tricky.

The books? Were a lot more tempting, but it seemed kinda unfair to grab a bunch of them when being in Japan I can run down to BookOff, something most other people can't.

Me? Tease you? Where do you get these crazy ideas from?

It is indeed cute. I think I need another bookshelf. Some of my books, from one of my 'to read' piles have gone missing. I've even checked with my library, in case I had left them there by mistake, but no luck. :(

I'll try and be online tonight & tomorrow night. Have needed sleep more than chatting, sadly. (Kids have been sick & not sleeping, which means I don't either.)

Maybe they just dipped into L Space to do some reading of their own?

I am both pleased with your acquisition and stunned you have chosen to use the word "cute" FOUR times. I personally think the word is only to be used with kittens and puppies, and kids playing you for suckers (*cough* like mine *cough*).
On a personal note, we have overstuffed all five of our bookshelves, put rows on top of the shelves, and stacked books on top of the rows. Now we have to admit defeat and put some in storage tubs. Like I'm ever going to crack my Criminal Justice Research Methods book again...

Ahaha, mystery comment...but your wiles have failed you. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!

I used the word "cute," btw, because the other adjectives I use for books aren't the sort one mentions in polite company. And don't feel bad; your kid plays me for a sucker too.

Finally, your description of your bookshelves is the sexiest thing I've seen all day.

Crap. It was not intended to be a mystery comment. Like I'd hide my dislike for the word "cute". And since when do you worry about polite company? This is your post, own it!

BTW, Midget is getting better at the manipulation, but I'm getting equally better about calling him out on it, which makes for interesting arguments. *HINT* NEVER try to use logic with a 3 yr. old!!!

But I wasn't just using it in any context! I was using it in regard to books! And you know how I am about my books!

Oh, and do you want to see some pictures of our overflowing shelves? We have Catching Fire on the shelf now. I can sense your drooling and envy...

I am drooling with envy. Out of every pore in my fucking body.

Because I went to the bookstore on the 1st and again today and they still don't have it.

Ouch! I've already read it! And it's eating me alive because I can't talk to John about it because he hasn't even started it yet!

Checking amazon.co.jp I find that Catching Fire only costs about $20, which is the U.S. price, non?

Oh please, please, please tell me it's the U.S. price so I can just go ahead and buy it. Three more trips to the bookstore later and they're still not stocking it. Imma 'bout to lose my mind over this...

I think we paid around $17, but I had a coupon, so I think that's pretty close to the US price.

awwww...that's almost as cute as that shower friend you had. I almost wouldn't want to pull a book off it.

I know! I just like looking at it.

And the cuteness is actually a good motivator for me to put books back when I'm done with them for the time being, instead of letting them build small fortresses around the kotatsu or sleeping area.

Yeah, but then you can play king of the mountain!!! Your manga can kick your non-fiction's ass!

Bwahahaha, sadly enough, that's probably true. But that's only because a typical paperback costs about $15-20 here, and lets not even get into prices for TPBs.
