TWIB-III: 30
May. 11th, 2009 10:39 pmMy university is on an institutional acid trip. That is the only logical way to explain the truly jaw-dropping level of incompetence and idiocy displayed by its administration. Alas, this state of affairs has turned me into a one-person damage control center. Thus, there's only one book to speak of this past week.
1) ミーアキャットの一日 - 内山 晟
A Day in the Life of a Meerkat - Uchiyama Akira
As the title suggests, this book follows the activities of a meerkat clan from sunrise to sunset. Although in-depth examination of meerkat behaviors is concentrated in the final pages of the book to make space for the requisite Japanese focus on cuteness, the cuteness is quite effective, helped along as it is by some nice photography. Certainly not the most academic book on the subject, but a relaxing read after pages and pages and pages of Stepan and Linz in Japanese translation. Also, I <3 meerkats.
In other news, I'll resume posting TPics just as soon as my computer decides to start recognizing my camera again, which it hasn't been doing for these past ten days. ::le sob::
That will be all.

on 2009-05-12 01:40 am (UTC)Lo and behold, I am required to do the presentation. When is it? A week from yesterday, on a day I have two presentations already. How much time do I have to prepare for it? Oh, about three hours a day when I'm not in class or working.
When were they planning on telling me this? "Oh, sometime later this week" said the bint in the office.
Discuss.

on 2009-05-12 05:33 am (UTC)How does that work, not required to write a report, yet give a presentation on it? Is this how *all* university courses are run in Japan? There needs to be Logic; Practical Applications for Everyday Life seminars available for the staff you've been dealing with.

on 2009-05-12 11:57 am (UTC)Then I'll work on the presentation Saturday and Sunday night when I'm off of work. I'm trying to decide if calling in and cancelling would be a bitchy thing to do as it's the weekend and they're chronically understaffed. Also, I need the \\\.
