Today's Picture: 089 (04/25/09)
May. 2nd, 2009 10:37 pmFor Saturday the 25th was of:

an oubo hagaki, or "application postcard." Oubo hagaki are second only topoint cards in their ubiquity in Japanese daily life.
As the name suggests, one uses the postcards to apply for stuff; they're essentially a sophisticated form of market research/sales tactic. Oubo hagaki come in everything from magazines and manga to (in the case of this picture) beer. Generally, one has to buy a certain amount of product (say two novels and an issue of the monthly in which their chapters are serialized), cut out the proofs of purchase or collect X number of stickers, supply a wide variety of demographic information on yourself and your comments on the product, send it off and hope that you win the drawing for the signed illustration or tshirt or whatever.
At the moment, I've got enough seals collected to apply four and six times for the Asahi Beer refrigerator and mini-keg and beer stein set, respectively. Cross your fingers for me!
That will be all.
