the Khmer New Year's party I attended in Kobe.
Oh my god it was fabulous. As can be seen in the picture there was a ton of Cambodian food, all of it home cooked, all of it delicious. And when it was all gone, they brought out seconds. And thirds. And forths. There was fresh fruit, three or four different curries, broiled chicken, three or four salads, and several desserts (including the egg-and-Japanese-pumpkin dish in the lower lefthand corner).
The eating went on for about two hours. Then came a fashion show, New Year's games, New Year's skits, and traditional dancing, which also went on for a couple of hours and was a blast. A good friend of mine participated and the whole thing was just a really, really excellent time.
And since I didn't get to do anything for Vesak (April's zazenkai was cancelled to make way for the celebration of Myoshinji's 650th anniversary and...Vesak), this substituted nicely. (It's just a hunch, but I am willing to bet money that the Khmer New Year is timed to Vesak.)
That will be all.
