room shoes! Which are apparently distint from slippers (there are no native Japanese words for either) although no one has explained to me in what way.

You never wear your shoes indoors in Japanese residences, or in many other buildings such as doctor's offices and schools up to the high school level. Instead one wears slippers in the home and special indoors-only shoes in schools. Any institution to which there are frequent visitors (e.g. schools and doctor's offices) provide slippers for guests; so do most homeowners. Indeed, many people still provide a second set of slippers to be used specifically while in the toilet, even though the days when the toilet was a hole in the floor (to say nothing of an outhouse) are long, long past.

These particular room shoes came from the Hong Kong Island Shangri-la.

c'est manifique! BTW, my spelling is atrocious today...I just got back from six hours on the road where every road I usually take to central town to get Corwin is blocked somewhere requiring about three detours today. *groan*

Aaaand this is why I love the mas transit systems in, well, Asia.

I do *not* miss INakaville traffic. It's bad enough once a year when I'm trying to get to/from the airport.

I just poked around on lj and couldn't even find the chat option. Am I just way lame in not upgrading to a new layout or am I just a retard?

No shit. Hey, can I losd AIM on my jump drive and run it from there? then I don't have to re-download it every time I'm on a different computer at school. I also have a drive I can axcess from any computer. Just some ideas. If these don't work, we can try to catch each other on facebook. They have a chat don't they?

Honestly, I don't know if AIM works on a jump drive. But if you turn off the browser popup blocker and use Aim Express (just search it on The Google), you should be able to chat on any computer that's connected to the net.

FB has chat also, so that's definitely another option.

It switched in March and won't "fall back" until November.
