Is of:

gosenpitsu, or "honorable brushwork." My honorable brushwork was written by Toukai Daikou, the head abbot of Myoshinji. I received it as part of the "Azukikai" (that's "Red Bean Event" in English), which was held for participants of the monthly zazen meetings to celebrate the New Year.

As with most Japanese calligraphy, legibility takes a back seat to the feelings evoked by looking at the writing. That, combined with the fact that the gosenpitsu on the left is written in Classical Japanese, means I have only the vaguest idea as to what these pieces say. That said, I'm pretty certain the Chinese gosenpitsu is a koan or famous saying dealing with cattle, this being the Year of the Ox by the Chinese zodiac. The little red rectangles are hanko, which are official seals that the Japanese still use in place of signatures.

There's probably a correct method for displaying gosenpitsu. I have no idea what it is, so I tacked the pictures up in the portico between the living area and kitchen of my rectangle.

That will be all.
