Get the fuck over it.
Over the past few days I've been mulling over the merits of posting a ranty rant of rantiness about how I'm becoming more convinced with each passing day that Republican obstruction of the stimulus bill is due in large, large part to the fact that Obama is black. Due to this more than the fact that they're sore losers pissed off at losing all the (often immoral, if not illegal) privileges they've amassed for themselves since the Reagan years. (If you want me to justify their "concern for future generations with anything more than a parenthetical aside, you need to stop reading this lj now.)
With all the stories about Republican malfeasance emerging in recent days I'd almost convinced myself that race didn't have much to do with it.
Then
metal_dog5 linked me to this, and all I could think is, Et tu, New-York-Fucking-Post?
Seriously, country. Not everyone is white. In fact, many of those people who aren't white are even intelligent, eloquent, moral, and have what it takes to lead nations. Get the fuck over it all ready.
SERIOUSLY.
That will be all.

on 2009-02-21 08:42 am (UTC)Reading that article I find I am absolutely amazed at the ridiculous overspending by the Republicans. Amazed but somehow not surprised. Do the words "public servants" not mean anything to those in Washington anymore?
From the NYTimes article:
“No,” Mr. Azzopardi said, “I don’t believe they ever gave us the password that shut down the waterfall to enter the cave leading into the studio."
I lol'd. ^_^
“In 17 years, I’ve never refused to yield to any member’s questions,” said Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, an upstate Republican, after he was denied a chance to speak.
Senator Carl Kruger, a Brooklyn Democrat, rhetorically swatted Mr. Nozzolio aside, saying simply, “I’m not finished.”
In a time when bipartisanship should be at the forefront of everyone's mind, they're starting to be petty (on both sides). WHY IS OUR GOVERNMENT BEING RUN BY CHILDREN?

on 2009-02-21 02:09 pm (UTC)As to your last question, I WISH I KNEW, although I'm heartened by the fact that Obama seems to be more the stern parent than gloating winner. Hopefully he can turn things around and refocus the government on what it *should* be doing: governing.

on 2009-02-21 10:41 pm (UTC)As am I, as am I. On the other hand I'm somewhat disheartened when I see the Republican's fighting it so hard. I mean, I understand difference in ideals and politics but. Could they try a little harder? Just a little bit?
Overall though, I think that if anyone can get through to the bigheads in Washington it's Obama.

on 2009-02-21 10:22 am (UTC)I wouldn't say the Republicans are blocking the bill because he's black, though... at least not the majority of them. It's a power play. They harass Democrats, and vice versa.

on 2009-02-21 02:21 pm (UTC)There's harrassment, and there's obstruction. Not a single House Republican and only three Senate Republicans voted for the stimulus bill. Although perhaps I am unfair in attributing this entirely to racism. Republicans have a long history of obstructionism; just look at their history of filibustering in the post-Clinton years.
Democrats, on the other hand, are cowards who talk big to their base but fold under talk radio pressure every time. And they do it because they know that those voters who aren't right, however disgusted they are with Democratic cowardice, have no other options in the current two-party system than to vote for the party that claims to share their political outlook but refuses to put their money where their mouths are.

on 2009-02-24 07:22 pm (UTC)And during the election Repubs were passing out Curious George dolls with Obama 08 on them. Even if the monkey thing were a news flash then it shouldn't be now, especially for someone working at a "newpaper" (remember, it is a paper owned by Rupert Murdoch).
