Today's Picture: 005

Is of:

a snapshot of the cooperative supermarket I've joined. It's of the liquor section not because that's the most interesting area (there's wackier stuff in the cup ramen section) or even my favorite section (I have yet to purchase any alcohol from them), but because it was the only part of the store that wasn't crowded, and thus where Whitey could snap a picture without freaking out the osteoporotic bent-over-double obaachans that frequent the place at three in the afternoon on Friday.
In other words, it is truly alarming how much electronic gadgets hate me. Today my new camera, the camera I have owned for exactly 37 days broke. Here is a picture of the model I own.

The section with the big finepix logo on it slides back and forth, exposing the lens and flash and turning the camera on and off as it does so. Today, a giant dent appeared on this portion of the camera, making it impossible to move said shutter slide back and forth, and thus to turn the camera on and off. How the dent got there I will never know: the camera was in its case when it appeared.
I have since managed to iron out a bit of the dent by working the slide back and forth, but I worry that this is a) scratching the casing, b) wearing down the slide mechanism and c) that the movement is still far from fluid, making it difficult to snap pictures on a dime.
How the fuck does this keep happening to me? And also, please cross your fingers that my laptop doesn't start to get any ideas. I really can't afford the $3,500 for a new one and I really do not want to eff around with the new "improved" versions of windows.
That will be all.

And I am your opposite... electronic gadgets love me, they truly do.

Ahaha, they might never get a *chance* to rebel; it seems like I all I have to do is get within ten feet of them and they self destruct. But if you're worried about your ability to survive, might I recommend the second book in this entry (http://akujunkan.livejournal.com/251681.html#cutid1)? Good stuff;-)

on 2009-01-31 03:36 am (UTC)You have a gift. A real talent. As for the new improved windows, Pete's got a beta copy loaded*, and says so far it's not too bad. It seems to me Vista was something for Microsoft to get out on the market before they released the proper upgrade.
*on a virtual drive, just in case.

Why can't I just be mediocre in this regard, like everyone else?

on 2009-01-31 06:51 am (UTC)Well, Peter has only just installed it, so rather than lose all his current Vista settings....*shrugs* I'm happy with XP and am not about to change just because there's something new available.
