Reread a couple of oldies that week.
1)The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe – Douglas Adams
This is the second book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series, and while occasionally chuckle-inducing, it’s not terribly funny. Perhaps that has as much to do with the book’s age—a lot of sci-fi book and movie parodies have been written since 1980, which are bound to be more current, and thus funnier than Restaurant--as much as it has to do with Adams’ writing per se. Then again, I first read this book in 1999, and remembered next to nothing of it on this read-through, so make of that what you will.
2) Life, The Universe, And Everything - Douglas Adams
This book finds Adams hitting his stride: although some of the zaniness is more over-the-top obvious than zany, it is genuinely humorous in many spots, and in one particular scene, downright hilarious. Some of the situations are bound to be funnier to Brits than others, but that said, the book is quite enjoyable nonetheless.
That will be all.
