Oh, you laugh now...but read this.
So, remember how I had a horrendous cold a few weeks back? I spent so much time coughing that my esophagus, nose, and sinus cavities bled, they were so raw. I also ended up with blocked eustachian tubes. For those of you not in the know, this results when fluid gets stuck in your ears until they unblock and drains it away, or causes an ear infection.
Or you until you rupture your ear drums from coughing, and it drains out that way. I tell you, feeling wet on your pillow and turning the light on to see blood coming out of your ear is not fun.
Luckily, I don't have a full rupture--only a perforation(!)--so it will eventually heal on its own. And hearing wind whistling in and out of my ear when I cough, sneeze, or swallow is kinda neat, I guess.
Ears are pretty important to your sense of balance, so when something's off, you'll tend to fall or trip a lot more. This may partially explain how I managed to walk into a corner and fracture the bone in my little toe. It isn't a complete break, so there's not much I can do but keep it immobilised and wait for the swelling to go down. It was black about a week ago; now it's just about 2/3rd bigger than the unbroken one.
And if the above weren't bad enough, there was the itchy, scummy eye. Now, this was probably just a result of the massive cold. But at the time, we were all worried that it had something to do with the scary bacterial contamination discovered in AMO's contact solution. We currently have about eight bottles of the stuff waiting to be turned in; luckily, we don't appear to have any of the suspicious lots. But wouldn't that have just been the icing on the cake?
Anyway, I'll get around to posting the normal TWIBs and checking regularly as soon as I get my current assignment done.
That will be all.

on 2007-06-05 05:22 am (UTC)If you get the blocked ear again, chew gum, lots of gum. The jaw movement helps move the gunk out of the canal.
Take care
