...Six-thirty rolled around, and I headed to Chinese class as I do every week. Had a good class, drove home, and was greeted with stony silence from mes parents. O-kay. This ensued for 10 minutes or so, until I was confronted by my very blustery pere.
Mon pere: Don't ever do that again.
AJK: Do what again?
Mon pere: *face darkening in anger* Take the car and go somewhere without telling us.
AJK: What are you talking about?
Mon pere: *face darkening further* You took the car and went somewhere.
AJK: I said goodbye before I left.
Mon pere: Yes, but we didn't realise you were taking the car!
AJK: You knew I was taking the car! I always take the car!
Mon pere: *glowing with righteous accusation* No. We. Didn't! You were on the phone, and the next thing we knew, you'd taken the car and gone somewhere without telling us. Never do that again without asking! We didn't know where you were!
AJK: Yes, you did. I was at Chinese class. You know, like I am every week at 6:30?
And then the wind went out of his sails, although he blustered for a bit longer in a feeble attempt at recovery. So I had to produce assurances that in the future I would not attempt to "take the car and go somewhere" without informing mon pere in the event that such an urge ever did happen to strike me (it hasn't yet).
Mon pere: *visibly calmed* So how was class today?
AJK: Pretty good. I got a plate.
Mon pere: Huh?
Behold the plate that I got:

My teacher awarded it to me because I received 100% on the "test" we took last week. I say "test" in quotations because he tested our knowledge of Chinese characters, which he has not, in fact, ever taught us. Anyway, the prize came out of the blue and was a bit embarrassing but really cute all the same. "This, this, China," he said, pointing to the back, where the words 'Made in China' do indeed appear. "This plate, China." Adorable.
Anyway, mon pere found it as cute as I did, and immediately sent me in to inform ma mere, thus raising the curtain for Act II of today's production:
AJK: My teacher surprised me with this for having known a bunch of characters last week. He was all excited for me to know that it came from China.
Ma mere: *with appreciation* Oh how nice! Is it Noritake?
AJK: You mean 'Noritake' like the Noritake I brought you from Japan?
Ma mere: Mmhm!
AJK: ......
~FINIS~
That will be all.
