I find the judicious number of communities I'm watching are cluttering up ye olde flist, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to stop watching them without leaving them. (I can't even find the ever-loving FAQs anymore, which should give you an idea of how long it's been since I've tried to change my setup in any way.) So, any good way to do this?

And once I get it done I am going to upload the belated b-day post. I will. I will.

Filters are your friends. If I didn't use them, I doubt I'd have as many people, comms or feeds on my flist.

Manage>friends (you'll end up here.)
Select Edit Custom Friends Groups. Create the filters you want, and stick whomever on each list. Remember to save and hope lj doesn't crap out on you while you're making a filter.
To view your filters, click on Friends Filter¹ and there you have it. Easy as.

Yup, I have them there too :-) I have my default Friends button - the actual people and a few RSS feeds. I'm in a very active cross-stitch comm so that's its own filter & button.

i remember that when you join a comm, you click "join community" right? and it asks there if you want to "add it on your f-list" or something...

so i think you can remove it from your f-list, but you'll still be a member as long as you don't click "leave community" option in the comm's user info page :D

You are a genius! I will have to try that. I've been messing around with the filters deal, but it just seems like a lot of work, and I am basically lazy:)
