Not content with slipping their minions into pharmaceutical school, it seems the religious/christian right has been turning their eyes to the LIS as well. Witness this NYTimes article, in which a host of librarians express outrage and horror at a reference in a Newberry Award-winning book to a dog's scrotum. And yes, this is the NYTimes, not The Onion.

My favorite quote? "Ms. Nilsson, [the librarian] at Sunnyside Elementary School in Durango, Colo., said she had heard from dozens of librarians who agreed with her stance. 'I don’t want to start an issue about censorship,' she said. 'But you won’t find men’s genitalia in quality literature.'"

Bitch, are you for real? Are you going to ban the Laura Ingalls Wilder books next? Milking cows sure involves a lot of contact with "women's genitalia," after all. Or how about the bible? Lord knows there's a lot of unwholesome stuff going on in that book. Which surely rules out the possibility of there being anything worthwhile in its pages. Right?
