1. How long have you been studying Chinese?
I started two years ago with the NHK Radio/Television courses before quickly realising that tones were not something I wanted to deal with sans teacher and gave up for the time being. I'm currently entering my fourth week of study via my alma mater's School of Continuing Studies.
2. What is your favorite book?
The Lord Of The Rings, for teaching me what reading should be like when it I was young enough for it to make a huge impression.
3. If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you like to have with you?
Ideally, a speedboat with adequate quantities of fuel and water for escape. (Although, it occurs to me that possessing a speedboat might not meet the definition of "stranded." But all the same, that's what I'd like to have...)
4. What's your favorite time of the year?
The first snowfall of the year, especially if it starts in the evening when I'm off of work.
5. What is your favorite place in the world to visit?
Kyoto, especially the string of temples and shrines running parallel to Higashioji-doori (broadly speaking). This obviously includes the big ones like Sanjusangendo, and the Philosopher's Walk and Ginkakuji, but there are also a lot of hidden gems, like Eikando and Kenninji, my two favorite temples in Japan.
