Finally made it to BookOff today. [livejournal.com profile] amasugiru, you would love this place - it's two floors and about twice the size of Hirabari BookOff. (It also sells doujinshi! Squee!) I, of course, loaded up on music, manga, and the collected works of Yoshimoto Banana, who I would like to marry.

Went to the CD store, and walked out of there with an indecent number of UA and Ajico CDs, once again proving that if one downloads the mp3 and it's good, one is usually apt to buy the actual product. Take that, RIAA.

My VP spent the afternoon showing me pictures of his family and business trips to America and Canada. For those who aren't aware, the Japanese traditionally keep the workplace and their families separate, it's not uncommon for people to not know the names of their coworkers' spouse. So the fact that he showed me the pictures was very personal and very, very cool. I think I'm going to like this school.

I'm off tomorrow for O-bon (I think). Am hoping to bike around town with my digital camera and get some cool pictures.

Went drinking with K and Dan, a couple of JETs who live near me. Impressed Dan mightily when I spoke some Welsh to him (he's from Wales, and did enjoy learning the language in school), and we had a nice discussion about All Things Celtic. Hopped from Danke to Akiyoshi, where we ate more yakitori than is good for one, and then to Foolish Cafe, which has to be the coolest bar in this town. The barkeeps are awesome, and the bona fide nihonjin there aren't afraid to talk to foreigners.

Halfway into the night, Adam and bald!Peter stumbled in (Drew was already there), and the night just got cooler.

Alcohol consumed: four pints nama-Kirin, one Midori & soda, one strong Malibu and coke.
Bowls of peanuts consumed: three.
Bowls of mixed nuts consumed: two.
Orders of yakitori: six (two each of tan and shinzou, one wakatori, and one negitori).

All in all, a good night/morning.

I'm off to buy a digital camera.
