Owning to the fact that I will not be able to get a keitai, landline, or Internet connection until sometime after August 20th, I have been obliged by being allowed to use a school computer. Ah.

First of all, many thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] hazardblue and [livejournal.com profile] villainny for chatting with me the other day and restoring some small amount of sanity.

Now, some connundrums about Takaoka.

1) You'd think one of the three largest Buddha statues in Japan would be easy to see in a city where buildings rarely top 7 storeys.

You would think that, wouldn't you?

Took me four days to find the Big Guy, and that happened completely by accident (I was searching for the city's sole electronics store).

2) You'd think a city of 175,500 people would have some sort of urbanised culture - DVD rentals, book stores, Book Off, bus system, concerts, CD stores, etc. etc.

You would think that, wouldn't you?

There's more to do in Pierceton. I now know why Takaoka is a) famous for its bars and b) why they're all clustered within 2 blocks of the station - if it wasn't for the alcohol, what would you do here?

On the upside, all of my supervisors are the sweetest people imaginable. I have been given someone's personal keitai with which to call home, my Vice Principal has been on his hands and knees in my apartment mopping up my predecessor's pubes (eww), my other VP stayed after school for an hour trying to get the shuuyakusho to expedite my Alien Registration Card (they wouldn't) and I'm going out to lunch with everyone today.

My students seem hardcore genki which I'm hoping will work to my advantage, once classes start.

[livejournal.com profile] teal_geezus, do you have book 24 yet? Do you want book 24? Let me know.

That will be all.

Is very good in this town. I know because I went out with all my supervisors for lunch today. They are very relaxed, chill people. I think that if I wasn't so anxious about the lack of phone and Internet, I'd be having a chill time with them.

My nose is healing well, although I still weep for the ring, and it's a bitch getting an 18 gauge in there every evening after work. But goddamit, if Madonna can keep her baby, I'm gonna keep my nose piercing.

If anyone Stateside (or hell, anyone in a Westernly-acculturated nation-state) can buy an 18 or 20 gauge clear retainer, please let me know!
