Jan. 22nd, 2006 02:03 pmI received for Christmas, among other things, a felt clarinet cleaning swab from
metal_dog5. A few days ago I also took a length of silk, folded it in half and tied a piece of yarn around it, and then attached a soy sauce container lid to the end by poking a hole through the end of the lid with a pair of nail clippers and a chopstick. I used this rudimentary swab to apply almond oil to the bore of the flute.
Witness! A dramatic recreation of events:
Me: Hmm. This swab sure doesn't seem to be distributing much of the oil into the flute's bore.
Flute: OMGYESTHANKYOUI'VEBEENWAITINGSOLONG!!!!!
Me: Woah.
Flute: ::plays beautifully::
Seriously, the sound I get out of this thing is amazing. I just breathe across it and get this wonderfully full, rich tone, and it balances perfectly over the octave change. I can only imagine what it will sound like once I get a proper pole swab with which to apply the oil. Hurrah for proper instrument maintainence.
That will be all.
