I know I've done this at least twice before, but as I have two hours to kill before Tokyo, here it is:

1. banana yoshimoto:
   The first real Japanese author whose works I read in Japanese. (FYI, I'm not counting the DNAngel novelisations or the E->J translations of LotR and Newbury novels.) I know about 1/3 of her stuff is available in English translation, but I just can't bring myself to try it, so I don't know if it's any good.
2. cooking:
   Almost exclusively Japanese, Thai/Burmese, and Southern Indian. The last two are impossible here in Dai Nippon thanks to the lack of basic ingredients and ovens, and the former isn't as interesting now that I can pay someone make it for me for less money than it would take to cook myself, so I'm finally experimenting with American cuisine.
3. ffvii:
   Should read: Sephiroth.
4. harry potter:
   Should read: Snape because the books are mediocre and I really wouldn't care otherwise.
   
5. kevin mcmahon:
   Of Prick/Lucky Pierre indy fame. Possibly one of the best lyricists alive.
6. manga:
   What I do for recreation instead of televion. Also responsible for teaching me Japanese where several thousand dollars worth of formal education couldn't.
7. pennywhistle:
   My consuming love. I believe I own twenty of the things now, including an O'Riordan D, which I was on the waiting list for since the age of 16.
8. rex mundi:
   Promethea's poor, poor cousin. I doubt it's still being published.
9. shodo:
   Fun, but futile without a teacher. The natural outgrowth of my love for western calligraphy, which I have been practicing since I was ten.
10. terry pratchett:
    Disc World. Sam Vimes. And of course, HIM.


11. yaoi:
    This should go without saying.
