Remember, back in the day, when there was a really popular clique whose members cut down and ostracized anyone they didn't like? Remember how almost everyone else fell in lockstep behind them in order to avoid being put at their mercy? But synchophancy only goes skin deep. Remember what happened when one of those popular kids finally overstepped his bounds, and everyone else was only too happy to eat him alive like a school of piranhas? I imagine Scott McClellan knows exactly what that feels like now.

Wow! Thanks for the link - that was just unbelievable!! One could almost be grateful one is not in his shoes, if he didn't so richly deserve it. Do you think they poured oil over him ahead of time, to facilitate his squirming? Usually this kind of briefing just annoys me, as no on really says anything but this was indeed a thing of beauty. I'm sure he sounded angrier and angrier as they circled ever more tightly around him in a fine feeding frenzy.

Amen to that! These briefings usually annoy me as well, because they generally go like this:

Member of the Pres: {{asks pertinent question}}
Scott McClellan: Shut up and sit the fuck down.
Member of the Press:

so it's nice to see them finally doing their jobs. I've also found this transcript to be a good piece of evidence that despite what some people think, the current administration is not transparent, and that press conferences =/= open and honest government.
