In Tokyo I picked up a book called Harcore Zen on a whim. And what would you know, it was a pretty good book, good enough that I've read it cover-to-cover twice in as many days. Its author was born and raised about 30 minutes from where I was born and raised in Ohio. He was former ALT who moved to Tokyo and became an ordained Zen priest. Turns out he was a former ALT in the town where I'm an ALT now, and taught at the school a block away from where I live. How cool is that? ^.^
