I'd forgotten how much I adore this chapter. It's go so much going for it - Chigusa is beautiful, Narushige is gorgeous, and they both put the moves on Rakan like whoa. And there's another Morning Ceremony. Score on all counts! Poor Rakan, who is trying his best but is as clueless as ever. I love the way he differs just enough from Ishuca. Both are clueless where it counts, but Rakan's definitely got more of an edge, takes charge more, and takes less crap (when he's aware that he's getting it, at least). And did I mention that Narushige is gorgeous in this chapter? I hope so, because he is. The Prince's Ayame hand is damn creepy, and Kingen's servility hits a few kink buttons too.
And of course, this is the chapter where Sugiura introduces theToei Demons secondary character squad. Watch this space for further developments with them (and boy do those ever include a few whammies!) in later transes.

//Rakan unwraps some riceballs.//
Rakan: "Okay, so we'll eat these for breakfast, since I made a separate lunch as well."
"Everyone gets one each of the white ones (those have sesame seeds in them), and the black ones (with the seaweed). And here you are!"

"Um, I'm sorry."
Narushige: "Hmm?"
Rakan: "I thought a lot... and considered it, and... I thought... isn't it likely that I'd finally end up coming here?"

I'd forgotten how much I adore this chapter. It's go so much going for it - Chigusa is beautiful, Narushige is gorgeous, and they both put the moves on Rakan like whoa. And there's another Morning Ceremony. Score on all counts! Poor Rakan, who is trying his best but is as clueless as ever. I love the way he differs just enough from Ishuca. Both are clueless where it counts, but Rakan's definitely got more of an edge, takes charge more, and takes less crap (when he's aware that he's getting it, at least). And did I mention that Narushige is gorgeous in this chapter? I hope so, because he is. The Prince's Ayame hand is damn creepy, and Kingen's servility hits a few kink buttons too.

on 2005-02-02 08:55 am (UTC)I'd forgotten how good this chapter was -- it was one of the ones I really tried to read early on, but with only occasional dictionary reference, so I didn't get everything (lately I've been so busy I've just been skimming to see what the general movement of the story is).
Now I really have to go back and read it properly. Oh the LOVE.
I think one of my favorite moments when I first read it was the vulnerable look on Touno's face when he thinks they're going to leave him behind, and the way Rakan scolds him for lagging as if it had never occurred to him that they'd be separated. I have a soft spot for Touno, he seems so lost.
And Rakan fast asleep in Chigusa's arms... I must have some sort of kink for sleeping scenes. The ones with Blood and Ishuca got me every time.
And when Rakan isn't fazed by the new world at all... OK, obviously I had a lot of favorite moments. ^-^
Waiting eagerly for the next chapter -- isn't that the one with the hilarious "poll"?

on 2005-02-04 06:45 pm (UTC)Touno's scene is brilliant. I really adore that about Sugiura's writing: that she can make characters angsty and pitiable, but not go overboard with it. You really feel for Touno there in a way that you don't with a Matsushita or Minekura character, because it's so believable and understated. I didn't really like Touno till this part, but now I do - his 'My Sanome Prince' revelation is so well-handled.
I'd keep going here, but since this entire chapter is one of my 'favorite moments,' I don't want to type your ear (eyes?) off.
I can't remember if the poll is in the next chapter or the one after that, but it is coming up soon, so don't fear!

i haven't seen Touno yet, but his lines (in the translations) are somewhat touching. not as much as Rakan's inner dialogues though. ^^;; but all the same, i also developed a soft spot for Touno since he realized he's been betrayed.
