Martyn Bennet died on January 31st of this year. I find myself pretty torn up about this. I have idolised this man since his first album came out. Everything about the music he made was awe inspiring - its virtuousity and playfulness and inventiveness. I've probably listened to his CDs more than any others in my collection of Celtic music.

I was wondering what was up with him - I kept checking his website but the fact that it hadn't been updated in ages was worrying. I remember the first time I found out that he had cancer - I was still in college then - and thought damn. That was years ago.

My dad's actually the person who told me about it. Real, real freaking shame.

Martyn Bennett was my cousin. I have to admit I've just been going down the list of other people who have him on their interests and seeing if anyone's said anything. It's cool to read stuff like this about him. Thanks.

Man, I'm really sorry. I know that probably doesn't mean much coming from someone you've never met, but I do mean it sincerely. I loved his music so much. His talent was awe-inspiring, and will be missed. Feel free to pass that on to the rest of his family.
