Japanese students wear their phys ed uniforms under their regular school uniforms. There are no showers or dressing rooms in the school building, so after phys ed is over, the regular uniform gets put back on over the sweaty phys ed clothing, which is of course on a sweaty body. Then the students march back into rooms where the kerosene heaters are going full blast to continue the rest of their lessons. The smell can get a little...festive, to say the least.

Of course, one can combat this problem with air fresheners. There were some new air fresheners in the classrooms today. You've seen them before, on college campuses and clunker automobiles across the States.

Yup, Yoshi Middle School's air fresheners of choice are the ever-popular marijuana leaf.

Discuss amongst yourselves..

That will be all.

Yeah, you'd think they would at least change back into their regular uniforms. That can't be fun to be sweaty all day under so many layers of clothing. That's great that they're using marijuana leaf air fresheners.

I know! And for a nation that so obsessed with cleanliness (Gargle for Oral Health! Shower, then bathe, then shower again! And do it every night), you'd think they'd figure out that sitting around for 6 or 7 hours with dry sweat on your skin is not much fun.

Ha! They do know what that is supposed to be, correct?

No. Connecting objects with their symbolic (or literal meanings) is not a strong suit among the Japanese.

Case in point: a fifty-year-old, married female teacher came to the school field day in a bright yellow playboy bunny track outfit. Nobody saw anything strange about this.

Wow, that's really... disgusting. What is it with the selective hygiene?

Did you know that, according to Herodotus, the Scythians had a unique fashion of bathing? They used saunas with burning magic weed hemp. Herodotus says they would refuse to bathe in any other way. I'll bet.

Man. Sounds like the Scythians knew where it was at. Cleanliness has never been so next to Godliness a darn good time!
