And in under a month since my last translation! Those of you interacting in lj land will also be happy to learn that I've got Chapter X finished, so that will be ready to go up as soon as I've transed Chapter IX. And then I'll be back on schedule.

Not very much commentary on the chapter this time around - it's more of a connector chapter than anything else, although we do have some lovely moments with Chigusa and Narushige, and Rakan's bit at the end is patented Suguiura sweetness as well.

Oh, and there's a cliffhanger, too. But you knew that already.

So, once again, How much do you love me?

Touji: "No, that's not what I meant!"
Narushige: "Didn't I tell you not to make children cry? (Poor thing!)"

Chigusa: "Is it a scary tree, or something?"
Narushige: "No, it's not dangerous or anything..."
       "You understand that, don't you?"
Chigusa: "You mean whether it's murderous or not?"
Narushige: "Plants aren't murderous!"
Rakan: Erm...
Touji: "Huh? So it's not murderous?"
       "But what about man-eating plants?"
Narushige: "'Man-eating plants?!'"



Narushige: Well, it doesn't look very friendly, to be sure...
       "There's no such thing as 'man-eathing plants!'"
Touji: "Huh? But..."
       That's not what Kinrei-sama.............

       Right, but... It's true that I don't get a bad vibe from it... That is to say... I'm not sure what...this strange feeling is..."

Narushige: But there's no such thing as a 'human seed!!' Right?
Rakan: "Umm. So that thing..... Are there 'people trees' in your world!?"
Narushige: "No, there's no such thing. (Obviously!)"
Rakan: "So then this is a plant? But what kind of plant!?"
Chigusa: "..............................."
       "That is a Sanome."



Narushige and Rakan: "....What!?"
       "A Sanome!?
Touji: "What the..?"
Rakan: "It's grown itself."
Touji: "Huh?"
Narushige: ....If you put it like that...
       "You didn't touch it, did you, Rakan-kun."
Rakan: "No."
Narushige: "And it wasn't this big when I looked at it this morning..."
Rakan: "You mean it has the capability to grow itself? (That's not possible.)"
Chigusa: "Yes."
Touji: "......................."



Touji: "Hey! Narushige! You mean to tell me that Sanome are plants!? I didn't fricking know that!!"
Narushige: "I didn't even know that! It isn't as if their bodies are any different from humans'!"
       "If it's a question of having capability or not..."
Rakan: "(I've never lied during a doctor's examination, guys...)"
Chigusa: "And what about the story that the women of Narushige-san's family giving birth to Sanome..?"
Touji: "If that's what they mean by 'giving birth,' and then they came to have a monopoly over the Sanome, and said that they were the only ones who could give birth to one, they'd certainly get treated well, wouldn't they?"

Chigusa: "If I do that, then I no longer need Rakan to return with me."
       "Because what I need is a Sanome, as long as this Sanome is here, my mission is complete."



Chigusa: "If I do that, I no longer need you to return with me."
       "You'll be able to continue living in this world as you did before."
       "Shigeka Narushige."
Narushige: "Yes."
Chigusa: "I'll return to the other world tomorrow morning, and take this Sanome with me. Are you going to come with me? I'm going to take you back as well, Touno."

I don't understand a lot of chapters 9 and 10 (I get about one word in ten without extensive use of a dictionary, and I've been too busy translating other stuff to focus on SD) but this chapter provided a lot of context for what little I did understand... coolness!

Okay, well that gives me extra incentive to get IX out, because I need more people to squee with. And X especially is an ever so lovely chapter.

He wasn't, at least not in the manga proper. At the end of VII he was very much ready to take Rakan with him, even though he realised it would be a pretty rotten thing to do. I think the change of heart came around precisely because he now has a second Sanome at his disposal.

And that's why I love Sugiura. She goes right for my emotional kinks, and I'll take wistful over YnM over the top angst any day. I'm a big fan of emotional understatement.

Well, Matsushita actually has a 40 (or was it 60?) page side story about Tatsumi coming out in the Hana to Yume monthly in 3 days. You can bet I'm gonna be all over that with my wallet.

Now, there are some possibilities:

1) YnM is being picked up again (*****)

2) Hana to Yume/Matsushita are testing the waters to see if it's worth picking YnM up again (****)

3) YnM is being dropped, but a Matsushita/HtY are starting a new related series (***1/2)

4) Matsushita/HtY are publishing this chapter so they have enough pages to fill out tankoubon 12, but YnM's been abaondoned (**)

5) We're all smoking crack and there is no Tatsumi chapter (*) or possibly (*****), depending on the crack.
