...have been preempted for a post about the awesomeness that was Thursday's Godsmack concert.
Which I went to the Big City to see, along with
bran420_7 and
wombatdeamor. The concert itself was pretty good, but the majority of the awesomeness was due to the fact that Life saw fit to smite us with the hammer of Murphy's Law pretty much from the time we woke up to the time we made it to the show.
420's mom was late getting the vehicle to us, which meant we were late starting out. Then there was a trip to the bank with some hilarious financial surprises in store for mes amis. From there to the restaurant which the in-laws and the midget had just happened to drop into, which made us even later.
The drive up was uneventful, and we dropped into my bank and cleverly decided to use my PIN number from six years ago instead of the current PIN, thus locking me out of my account. We made it up to the credit union office five minutes too late to have someone unlock it. Not only did this leave me without any cash for the evening, it also meant that I am going to be stuck paying the $5.00 ATM withdrawal fees once I get my card reinstated for the foreseeable future, as I make it to this bank once every four months, if that.
Then on to a massive clusterfuck of errands saddled upon us by our respective parents, with much attendant not knowing where we should be going and dashing on foot across six lanes of traffic. We had agreed to meet up at The Bookstore, where alas, a small quarrel escalated into the keys being locked into the vehicle. The Big City police won't jimmy open locked cars unless someone is asphyxiating inside, the mother unit could not bring us the spare key to the vehicle because ::cough:: we had the vehicle, ma mere was ignoring the phone and thus my attempts to get my AAA information. It was suggested to us by the staff of The Bookstore to call AAA. The first phone number was disconnected. And the second? Was Triumph Christian Books.
We finally got ahold of a locksmith in time to drive to the hotel for some quick drinks before heading to the venue. It's a pretty sweet place--kinda like the Murat, but a little less Mason-y. The opening act was pretty lame, so fought our way upstairs to the bar, only to be told that we needed to get our ages verified elsewhere.
We had time to finish off two drinks and do out part to fight terrorism in the Homeland by buying overpriced merchandise before the real show started. And it was pretty awesome. Godsmack hardly ranks on my list of favorite bands, but they do put on a mean live performance. Lights were pretty good, accoustics weren't bad, and the double drum interlude in the middle was not to be missed. Alas, the audience was perhaps the lamest I have ever encountered at a show--they just stood there. Occassionally someone nodded their head. They could have been Japanese, in fact, for all the enthusiasm they displayed. I'm betting this had something to do with the lack of an encore.
Anyway, the accoustic finale was excellent. Godsmack is not the best band out there in terms of lyrics or originality, but they do put on a mean live show.
That will be all.
