I swear, I'm not one of those people...
Feb. 20th, 2006 11:01 pm...who doesn't pay their utility bills because they're an asshole.
It's just a whole lot harder to pay those bills in Japan. I, apparently, have not paid my YahooBB bills since last December. I discovered this fact this morning when an invoice for three months' worth of back payments was delivered to my door. (YBB cut my service late last night.)
I'd sent in the little postcard with my payment information in late October/November, and then promptly forgot all about it because a) I filled out the exact same postcard for a friend and her payments are being deducted on schedule from her bank account and b) YBB sent me no bills between December and February. Guys, if you continue to provide me with service and fail to contact me when I'm not paying my bills, I'm going to assume that, you know, I am paying them.
This is of concern not only because I want my fast Internet, dammit, but because I had arranged to pay by credit card. Basically, you put your CC information on this little postcard and slap a sticker over the front of it so the information isn't available to everyone who handles the postcard between mailing and final delivery. Only, the sticker can easily be peeled off (what would be the point, otherwise), I'm not sure what sort of credit card fraud protections are available in this country, and my postcard has obviously not made it to its destination.
Thank god some fool in this apartment building has a relatively fast wireless connection they've not seen fit to encrypt.
That will be all.
