Below is an excerpt from an actual email written by a regiona rep, promoting a concert his friend has helped to organise:
"The main objective of her organization is to protect and raise women`s value in Japanese Society and also to promote English learning amongst Japanese people. She is not a feminist in the least bit, but she just doesn't like to see Japanese women treated like second class citizens, ya know. And, I`m far from a feminist (if y`all know me, then you know this!) I agree, that is why I am helping her sell tickets. It is pretty pathetic the way women feel about themselves here. Granted, there are exceptions, but for the most part they regard themselves as just housewives or less intelligent than men. And I have met some beautiful women who think they are not even attractive. It is really annoying and pretty depressing."
First of all, thank god that this event isn't being sponsored by feminists... Or gays or Jews, for that matter. Seriously, why is this guy going to such lengths to assure us all that it isn't being sponsored by feminists, and being so self-congratulatory that he isn't one himself?
What, pray tell, is a feminist exactly, if not someone who doesn't like to see "women being treated like second class citizens?"
I also enjoy this quote:
"And I have met some beautiful women who think they are not even attractive"
Because, of course, the key to raising the status of women in Japan is to assure them that they are pretty. Because that's what counts. And because the equation of a woman's looks with her overall value (or lack thereof) isn't a factor which contributes to gender discrimination in the first place.
I would quote more, but it makes my brain hurt.
Brendon Sher, you are an idiot.
That will be all.
