Event-o-Rama
Aug. 7th, 2003 11:58 amAm still scheming as to how I might get the contents of my laptop off of the laptop and available to the world at large. As the 10th draws nearer, this becomes more and more imperative.
Handed out some okurimono at work today. I was ridiculously late in doing this because a) the airport monkeys opened my shampoo and returned it to my luggage outside of its protective bag when they checked my luggage (despite what the TSA or the us government or anyone might say about this, airport security checkpeople are angry, petty little fucks and nothing will convince me otherwise) and b) I'd forgotten that the Japanese do not believe in wrapping paper, and it took some doing to locate paper which would suffice.
OTOH, it's nice to be reminded how good giving gifts can make one feel, especially if they're unexpected.
Went to the penultimate day of Tanabata last night. Apparently, Takaoka has a huge Brazilian expat population. I had two opportunities to see some Japanese flamenco dancers. It was awesome, especially the second showing, when they dragged some very young girls (five years or under) and some obaachans out onto the dancefloor. Those women could dance.
I'm going to meet my landlord today (perchance) and have already met the cats at Komadori Chuugakkou. Very nice people, and very impressed with my broken Japanese.
Have now made two concrete plans to go to the beach - once with Hikaru and once with the IC. Am also going to go see some Noh. I wonder if it will be as interesting as Nagoya kabuki.
Speaking of Nagoya,
amasugiru if you're reading this, I've figured out how to get from my station to that fabled city. If you're up for it, we should go. I'm dying for some kaitenzushi.
Also added some new friends to the lj today, which was a nice surprise.
That will be all.
