I swear, I'm not one of those people...
Feb. 20th, 2006 11:01 pm...who doesn't pay their utility bills because they're an asshole.
It's just a whole lot harder to pay those bills in Japan. I, apparently, have not paid my YahooBB bills since last December. I discovered this fact this morning when an invoice for three months' worth of back payments was delivered to my door. (YBB cut my service late last night.)
I'd sent in the little postcard with my payment information in late October/November, and then promptly forgot all about it because a) I filled out the exact same postcard for a friend and her payments are being deducted on schedule from her bank account and b) YBB sent me no bills between December and February. Guys, if you continue to provide me with service and fail to contact me when I'm not paying my bills, I'm going to assume that, you know, I am paying them.
This is of concern not only because I want my fast Internet, dammit, but because I had arranged to pay by credit card. Basically, you put your CC information on this little postcard and slap a sticker over the front of it so the information isn't available to everyone who handles the postcard between mailing and final delivery. Only, the sticker can easily be peeled off (what would be the point, otherwise), I'm not sure what sort of credit card fraud protections are available in this country, and my postcard has obviously not made it to its destination.
Thank god some fool in this apartment building has a relatively fast wireless connection they've not seen fit to encrypt.
That will be all.

on 2006-02-20 02:26 pm (UTC)My yahoo and most accounts come straight out of my bank account. However, I refure to pay NHK. I paid last year, but this year when they come by I plan to be a complete bitch and say no until they give up and leave. Because I haven't watched TV in months. Even for like 5 minutes.

on 2006-02-20 03:10 pm (UTC)YEAH, I would think that everything was ok if I wasn't getting any bills! WTF?
Oh, the bitter laughter. IIRC, you were not yet on board last year during the electricity fiasco. The bitter, bitter laughter.
Thanks, btw:) I think the idea for that icon was one of my finer moments in recent memory.

on 2006-02-20 03:13 pm (UTC)Yahoo is my only account that doesn't yet come straight out of the bank account. Obviously, my attempts to correct that were unsuccessful. I have never paid NHK. (Knock on wood.)
And thank you. I haven't watched television since May of last year and I'm tired of everyone treating me like a freak of nature for it.

How could it, when the chapter isn't supposed to be out for another week. God, I love the Chinese scanners.
