Oh, Japan. You never stop...

...bringing the failboat.

I haven't been able to log into my university email for going on a week now. The university email is already cocked up because:
  1. You can't change your randomly generated username (think 2t719r81) to something memorable, like your name. Have fun giving that addy to a potential employer over the phone.
  2. When logging in you must do so with your entire email address (271981tr@pc.ritsume.ed.jp). Have fun typing that in every single time.

So when repeatedly careful one-finger-typing attempts to log myself in failed, I gave up. Until today, when I had to go through yet another health check but couldn't remember when it was. (Predictably, this information was not supplied on the Current Students homepage).

So I asked a fellow student if she could log in, which is about the only way to get answers around here.

"Oh yeah," she said. "They changed the email addresses. Now you have to put in 'qx' instead of 'pc.'"

"When did they tell us about that?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.

"Oh, they sent an email about it when they made the change."

I will leave you to ponder this on your own. Have fun.

That will be all.

april fool's...or not.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, if only. Japan Knows No April Fool's.

(That said, I do recommend checking out today's wikipedia front page.)

Gmail's is also pretty good.

Damn, dude...I always laugh when people talk about how SMART OMG!!!11!! Japanese people are... >< this is pretty good tho.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I missed gmail's.

Which is maybe for the best. I totally didn't catch on to last year's, even ranted at a friend over how messed up I thought it was and everything.

Luckily for me, she just sat there quietly probably enjoying the joke.

[identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I forget what last year's was...

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
It was something about being able to go through message threads and change important information to make it look like you'd submitted your final report by the deadline or actually had declined the boss's dinner invitation when you just couldn't be bothered to show up.

[identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty cool actually.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I know, and they worded it believably enough that I TOTALLY FELL FOR IT.

[identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately they've deleted most of the pages dealing with it, but I found one remaining which has the bulk of the joke.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my lord, that far eclipses last year's in briliance. I wish I'd been able to see it in Real Time, as it were.

Thanks for digging up that page!

[identity profile] demeter918.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
... wow.

There's a word for this kind of 'fun'.

At first, I thought it was an April Fool's joke and then I thought about it. No, it's just the special uniqueness of Japan.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I had several words for it. Select ones.

You know, there are a lot of special snowflakes out there, but I really get the feeling Japan is one of the ones that would try falling in July...

[identity profile] demeter918.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
In the Bahamas?

I send you virtual hugs and kisses; by the way, just use the stuff I left there. The likelihood of me getting it anytime soon is nil and it seems stupid just to have you keep them there without usage. So usage!

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Careful--there'll be some hurt feelings if you remind people that there's moe than one "island nation" out there.

And you sure? Like I said, it's not like it's eating up a lot of space or anything.

[identity profile] ontogenesis.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
... oh Japan.

That said, you do seem to have some pretty rotten luck. Maybe it's working for the government (in the past) / usual uni admin problems + Japan = hell.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This one wasn't an example of rotten luck as much as a textbook example of the vast bureaucratic stupidity this country can shower down on the unfortunates within its borders. At least this time I was not actively part of the problem...

[identity profile] bran420-7.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Um...I am, for once, speechless. Mostly. It's kinda nice to see some bureacratic stupidity emerging from another country. Wank-tastic.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I'm kinda...like, how does *anything* get taken care of by this office? I mean, the uni's been around for over one hundred years, so surely they haven't all been this incompetent...

[identity profile] bran420-7.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah...the decline of intelligence and civilization as we know it...good news for us...we're smart enought to takeover.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Or just say "fuck it all" to the rest of the world and go live on a Pacific Island Fastness somewhere. Any votes for the geographic location of our secret base?

[identity profile] bran420-7.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Carribean, just north of Brazil. Coast protects from most hurricanes and has average temp and humidity around 80. Unless you know a good Pacific island.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There are lots of good Pacific islands! Japan. Fiji. The Marianas. Micronesia. Hawaii.

Although an Atlantic fastness would be breaking the mold, which we definitely excel at doing^^

[identity profile] bran420-7.livejournal.com 2009-04-14 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Most definitely. Nowhere near the Bikini Islands though. I want the animals we bring with us to have normal genitalia throughout the generations.

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2009-04-16 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Plus, I thought the whole idea was to get away from the U.S.'s unfortunate experiements, economic, scientific or otherwise.

Touche.
