There had better not be a germ left in my body...

...what with the truly prodigious amount of mucus I've been expelling through various orifices this past day and a half. We're talking amounts perhaps equal to my body weight. It ain't fun. At any rate, I'm not up to much besides sleeping at the moment, so I leave you with school lunch:

Yesterday's green blobs

Green Blobs

No one's quite sure what they were, or even what they were supposed to taste like.

Today's firefly squid

Firefly plate

Someday I'll bring my real camera to work so you can see these at a resolution above 1.2 megapixels. You will begin to notice how all school lunches look eerily the same.

And a closeup of the above

Squid-chan

Roughly life sized. The eyes go crunch when you eat them. These things aren't so bad at enkais when you're drunk, and the chef's removed the eyeballs and internal organs and replaced them with spicy mustard. Needless to say, none of these conditions apply during school lunch.

That will be all.

Holy crap! What the hell ARE those things? And did you really eat them? The squid, although identifiable, don't look much better...and the eye thing.......ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Count on school lunches to find the least appetizing way to present something.

Hoping the great mucus clearing-out abates and you find yourself back in fighting form quickly :-)

Thanks for the wishes! I seem to be draining and 100% improved today.

No one knows what the blobs are - that's what makes it so disturbing. When questioned directly, the sensei in charge of lunch replied, "It's a secret." Theories included some sort of green tea or spinach coating, but it didn't taste like green tea or spinach.

And if you thought the squid were bad, just wait until I get photos of Squid Body Day.

John Digweed rocks. I have both of his Global Underground CDs from 2000 if you want a copy.

Yes please! I've got Northern Exposure, if you want that one.

Don't worry: eating eyes are lucky. My mom assures me.

(Though... You probably want to cut those suckers open somehow and remove the black stuff...)

To be honest, I just swallowed them whole. I was feeling pretty darn ill at the time and not up to facing lunch down. Good to know it made me lucky though.

They really *are* green blobs. Marvelous. (I love your posts.)

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2005-05-21 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And blobs they will stay, until someone explains to me what they actually consist of...

Hmm, don't think I've yet had either the squid or the green blobs at school lunch. We certainly get thousand eye rice a lot, though. Hope you feel better soon!

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2005-05-21 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Feel much better today, thanks! The squid are a local meibutsu, which is probably why you haven't seen them. The green blobs, well, no one had seen those before, but they're traditional Miyazaki-ken food, according to the kyuushokudayori, which tells us that but not what they are.

I'm all for trying new foods, but your school lunches scare me. Is the canteen motto 'What doesn't kill you, we'll serve again.'?

[identity profile] akujunkan.livejournal.com 2005-05-21 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Or perhaps, "Trying to kill you so we don't have to serve you again."

(Thanks for the new icon, btw!)
