RIP Dr, George Tiller

Fuck you, radical christian right. This is just so disgusting I don't even have the words. THIS is the all-American terrorism the government should be fighting, not waterboarding Arabs trying to forge a fake link between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

My thoughts are with Dr. Tiller's family.

That will be all.

The suggestion by another radical christian looney that Dr. Tiller was murdered by one of his patients is just so far beyond the pale I. Don't. Have. Words.

I saw this on Rueters news this morning when I was on the train. Though I personally disagree with late-term abortions (and abortion in general), disagreeing with something doesn't give someone the right to kill. Any Christian who claims they were working in the name of God is no different than a jihadist after their 72 virgins. Thou shall not kill is right there on the Ten Commandments, after all. Besides, when you kill the doctor, aren't you taking a life the same way he is? Don't you just circumvent the problem?

I don't understand why this happened. I can't agree with Dr. Tiller and late-term abortions where the fetus can survive outside the womb, but what kind of example does this set? Kill people when you don't agree with them? Has the anti-abortion campaign stooped to this? Well, not the campaign itself, as they promptly expressed condolences, but people within the campaign. This hurts me deeply as a Christian too, because few highlight the good Christians do in the world, but everyone will jump on the bad Christians. This murder hurts everyone all around. He didn't deserve to die for maniac's corrupted world dream. My prayers certainly go out to his family and friends.

Yes, thank you. Exactly. Which is why I personally believe there are christians and Christians. The lunatic who shot Dr. Tiller was one of the former. Religious fundamentalism in any faith drives me nigh batshit in a way few things can, because violence and hatred are not the point of any religion, anywhere.

And the thing about late term abortions is that they aren't legal unless there are severe medical problems with the fetus, or if carrying the pregnancy to term would cause extreme harm to the mother. But more importantly: who the fuck thinks that a woman who has carried a pregnancy for almost a year is going to wake up one morning and say, "You know what? I changed my mind." This is motherhood we're talking about, not that pair of $5 sweatpants you bought at Wal-Mart on a whim the other day.

Late term abortions give me the chills, though I misspoke earlier. If the life of the mother is in jeopardy, I can't just tell the mother to die for the sake of her child. I forgot that Bush banned non-emergency late terms (he did, didn't he, or am I mixing things up again?).

I did know a couple that got a rather late abortion once they found out the kid would have Down's Syndrome. Still don't know how I feel about that one. I understand they didn't have the time or money to commit to a special needs child, but surely someone out there would have loved that kid in their stead.

Fundamentalism bites away at the very basis of any religion. My faith is strong, and I don't deny it, but I feel no need to force it on others (though you may hear me talking about), and I certainly won't do it at the point of a gun. Those kinds of things never work out the way you want them to. >__

Late-term abortions gives me the chills -- because of the immense suffering it causes the fetus, brain waves can be detected at five months, hence pain is registered. But it's legal, and it's not my place to judge when it's necessary. That's the between the woman and her doctor.

If a person has a problem with late-term abortions, he should take it the courts.

Taking a life -- IN A CHURCH with other people present -- it is morally reprehensible.

Once again the christian extremists have proven that force in religion leads to uneccesary death, fear, and suffering. Let's send them to Guantanamo and see how they like it. In other news, why have those law enforcement officials who let it get to this point NOT been charged with inciting violence? If they want to sit by and let threats and assault(touching with intent to cause fear IS assault) be perpetrated against those performing thier jobs, then they should be fired, charged, and lose thier pensions.

This whole subject has had me thinking of the book Keeper by Greg Rucka. It's a good book about a professional bodyguard who is hired to protect the head of a women's center (PS, I'm tired of them being called "abortion clinics". I'm fairly certain most of these places do a lot more toward a woman's health than just remove fetuses.). It's a good book and it made me cry.

Did you hear that another antichoice group wants to buy the building from the Tiller family and make it a new headquarters? "We don't condone violence but we're more than happy to take the spoils." Fucking bullshit. If the family sells than I hope Dr. tiller returns from HEAVEN to kick some ass.

Okay, aaaaand one more book to add to the pile. Do you guys realise you're bankrupting me on par with grad school, what with the 50%-75% coverprice markup on books imported to Japan?

Also, A-FRICKING-MEN to your comment about women's centers. Planned Parenthood is about the only place I can go in the States for checkup, and as we know, there is absolutely 0% that I am going to have a baby to abort anytime soon.

Yeah, that'd be Operation Rescue. Fuck those fuckers.

Don't worry about Keeper, I have it the first three or four of that series. Greg Rucka recently made news by reinventing Batgirl (I think) for DC in an effort to diversify their characters and made her a redheaded lesbian. He writes a good story (kinda summer read stuff, not exactly high literature but entertaining).

I want to pee on the right wing of this country.
