RIP Benazir Bhutto

Egads. What a thing to wake up to.

PS: Isn't it funny how good ole Bush refers to Hugo Chavez as a dictator and Musharraf as an ally and democrat? Just saying...

That will be all.

Yes, that is quite shocking if only because of the way...
Bush is playing his cards... at least Chavez obeyed the last referendum.
It's a shame, I liked the strong image of Benazir Bhutto. Really, RIP.

It's such a shocking yet unsurprising tragedy. I haven't seen/read anything Bush has had to say on the matter, but the following is from our local paper - the only two quotes I suspect because of the time it happened was about the time the second run is printed.

Quote:
A top Russian diplomat said the killing could trigger a wave of terror in the country. "An act of terror is a bad sign," Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov, Russia's top Asia diplomat, said.

"We hereby offer our condolences. This will for certain trigger a wave of terrorism."

US officials said they were "looking into" reports of Bhutto's death.

"It demonstrates that there are still those in Pakistan who want to subvert reconciliation and effort to advance democracy," deputy State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

Call me cynical, but the Bush government saying they're looking into something means they're most likely planning to ignore it.

edited to fix small error.
