After about a month of duds, we had a real winner tonight. Wish I'd taped it. A good episode of SMAPxSMAP is like a lungful of The Strong Crack. There's a palpable narcotic affect, but you're not sure whether to laugh, cry, or start slaughtering people.
And did we ever have a good episode tonight. Engrish, "stylish" camera work, rivalry!, random gaijin, the guy from the Gatsby commercial (I happen to think he's hot), an absolutely riveting (and terrifying) bit with hundreds of Kusanagis dressed up in chongsam, mugging, and playing traditional Chinese instruments (think Robert Palmer videos on LSD), and if that wasn't enough, it appears the group's gayer-than-gay dance instructor (who
amasugiru assures me exists) took the week off. We were treated to a view of what happens when someone isn't choreographing the boys' steps, and it was teh beauty.
In other news, I'm rocking the plastic like a man from the 80s.
