A question for the masses...

...anyone know of any good free audio editing software?

I made the mistake today of buying one of the Teach Yourself packages, (willfully) forgetting how useless they are if you're actually serious about language acquisition. Since it was expensive and "this is a crap product" is not grounds for a return, my plan now is to convert the CD audio tracks into something useful by ripping them to mp3 format, editing out all the useless English explanation, slicing all the dialogue into individual tracks, and tripling them up.

So far I've come across two programs that look like they might be useful: Mp3 Editor for Free and Power Sound Editor Free. Have any of you guys used either of these? Or are there other programs out there that are better? I'm not looking for something like Cakewalk or Garageband, just a way to get the TY content into a stripped-down, useful format.

That will be all.

No, that's really helpful! I'd rather use a program that comes recced by someone I know than something I found on teh intranets, where maybe the developers' friends are writing all those five star reviews for them.

Good to see you back online, BTW!

Hey I am always online!! just find me at the pr0n section on pixiv... too busy drooling at BL fanart, let's forget my lame hobbies.
I found my mp3 splitter and it is a really small program, at least the version I have, and you just select your mp3 file and then you click the play button you hear the file play and click the scissor button to start selecting the the frames you want to cut... erm I am not good at explaining want me to zip the program and small how to use it file?
